Nov. 7, 2017, was a staggeringly good election day for Democrats, and among the progressive victorious is transgender woman Danica Roem, who beat out incumbent Virginia House of Delegates Republican Robert G. Marshall, author of the infamous anti-transgender "bathroom bill." Roem's victory marks the first time an openly trans person has been elected as a state legislator — however, she won't be the first trans legislator to serve. That landmark achievement belongs to a Black woman: Althea Garrison, who served as a state legislator Massachusetts from 1993-1995.
Brooklyn BreYanna Stevenson, 31, was found dead after police were called to the motel for a disturbance at about 2:30 a.m.
"Right now, there are no arrests in this case. Anyone with information, we want to hear from them through our homicide tip line," said Oklahoma City Police Spokesman, MSgt. Gary Knight Monday.
Knight telling News 4 Tuesday there have been no arrests, or no known motive to the crime, adding it's still too early in the investigation to determine if Stevenson's identity as a transgender woman played a role in her death.
Activists say the bill in its present form should not be adopted.
It has been drawn up by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The protest is expected to take place on Sansad Marg, the street that leads to parliament.
Protesters say the bill in its current form threatens trans freedoms as screening committees will be set up in every district of India.
Gender recognition certificates will be issued to trans people after examinations take place by health officers.
