Trans Woman Chyna Doll Dupree Killed in New Orleans

A transgender woman was shot dead Saturday night (Feb. 25) outside a shopping center in New Orleans East, according to a relative who identified the victim as Chyna Doll Dupree.

Police said the victim was found shot several times in the 4300 block of Downman Road at about 8:30 p.m. and died at the scene. The Orleans Parish coroner's office will release the victim's name and cause of death.

By 9:30 p.m., police had cordoned off the Bella Plaza shopping center, where a body lay between two cars parked in front of a clothing store. Downman was blocked to southbound traffic.

24 Year Old Trans Woman Killed In Chicago

Keke Collier, a 24-year-old woman, was fatally shot in Englewood Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Collier, whom friends identified as trans, was found lying in the street with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and hand, according to police, in the 7300 block of South May Street around 6:14 a.m. She was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where she was pronounced.

Mesha Caldwell, a well-known hairstylist and make-up artist in her community, was found shot to death in Mississippi’s Madison County.

Caldwell is the the first transgender person to be reported murdered in the US in 2017.

Caldwell, 41, was found on a county road just outside the Canton city limits on Wednesday (4 January), according to Mississippi Now..

A Viriginia woman and advocate for the LGBTQ community is raising money to buy a house and build a shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth and adults.

Zakia McKensey, the founder and Executive Director for Nationz Foundation, created the non-profit more than a year ago. The organization provides people access to HIV testing, healthcare and also has an open food pantry.

Cleveland Trans Woman Brandi Bledsoe Found Murdered In Driveway

CLEVELAND-- A local family is looking for answers after a transgender woman was found dead in a driveway on Cleveland's east side.

The body of Brandi Bledsoe, 32, was discovered on Drexel Avenue near East 108th Street around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Cleveland police said the victim suffered head trauma and ruled the death a suspected homicide.

Family members, who know the victim as Brandi and Brandon, are remembering her.

Black Trans Woman Jazz Alford Killed in Alabama, the 22nd Trans Person Killed This Year

Black trans woman and North Carolina native, Jazz Alford was found dead in her motel room in Birmingham, Alabama in late September with initial police and media reports misgendering her. She’s the 22nd trans person killed this year, which is quickly catching up to last year’s death toll of 23 reported deaths of trans people — the majority of which were Black trans women.

Founder and CEO of Transgender Individuals Living Their Truth (TILTT, Inc.) Cheryl Courtney-Evans, 64 has died.

Official details about her death has yet to be released but according to a Facebook post Courtney-Evans made last Friday it seems that she was being treated for a health condition.

Courtney-Evans, named Grand Marshall of Atlanta Pride this year, had been fighting for transgender rights since an early age.

Shock waves ran through the LGBT community as word spread that one of our most beloved entertainers has passed. The Lady Chablis, the iconic nightclub performer best known for her turn in the 1997 film adaption of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, has died. She was 59.

Club One, the Savannah, Georgia, hot spot where Chablis famously performed, announced her death on Facebook, Thursday. A friend, Cale Hall, further confirmed to the Associated Press that Chablis was suffering from pneumonia, and had been hospitalized for the past month.
