An Upstate New York woman has been charged with murder in a domestic incident near Rochester.
WHEC reports Doris Carrasquillo, 40, has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of 28-year-old Kashmire Redd. Police say they were in a relationship and shared an apartment in Gates.
Police say Redd, who identified as a transgender man, was stabbed several times in the upper body inside their home at Crerand Commons around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. He ran outside for help and collapsed on the front lawn.
Neighbors had called police to their apartment several days before Redd's death, Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode told the Democrat & Chronicle, complaining about shouting and screaming. No one answered the door when police arrived then, he said.
VanBrederode said the fatal stabbing was sparked by an argument, but did not elaborate on the nature of the argument. Court papers say Carrasquillo allegedly admitted being responsible for the death of her boyfriend.
The couple had moved to the apartment complex in June.
According to WHEC, a teenager was at the home at the time of the incident, but was upstairs sleeping. The teen, who has not been identified, is reportedly now staying with family members.
Carrasquillo was arraigned at Gates Town Hall on Tuesday and is due back in court later this week.
