Caldwell, 41, was found on a county road just outside the Canton city limits on Wednesday (4 January), according to Mississippi Now..
‘I really don’t know why somebody would want to kill her,’ friend Mary Young told Indentities.Mic.
Caldwell had attended Jackson State University and Canton Public High School, according to her Facebook page.
She also described herself this way on the page: ‘I’m a bad bitch, don’t take no shit or play any games. Anything else you want to know ask me!!!!!!!’
Many friends wrote their condolences on the page including Monica Roberts who vowed: ‘Rest in power and peace sis. We won’t rest until the person who committed this crime is caught and brought to justice.’
In 2016, a record 26 transgender people were murdered in the US and nearly all were women of color.
